CIFT Agribusiness Forum – February 16th, 2023 – In Person/Virtual

February 2023

February 16th, 2023 - 8:30 - 9:30 AM

"A perspective on ag inputs and the impact on the industry"

Join us in-person or virtually for the February Agribusiness Forum! This month, we’ll hear from Phil Altstaetter – CN Director at Sunrise Cooperative.

Today we are seeing dramatic increases in fertilizer prices. These increases are having major impacts on farmers in Ohio and beyond. We will be discussing what has caused costs of fertilizer to rise and what the expectations are for the next 6-12 months as well.  Phil will share how he evaluates fertilizer values and introduce some of the tools he uses to help growers determine if they should be buying fertilizer or not.  There will also be some discussion around Sunrise and what they are doing to work with  farmer owners in the arena of water quality,

If you have any specific questions for Phil please send them to info@ciftinnovation.org.

Phil has been with Sunrise for nearly 25 years working for several legacy cooperatives before reaching Sunrise in 2017.  Phil started in the late 1990’s with Auglaize-Provico cooperative in Kettlersville Ohio.  With his first responsibility right out of Wilmington College to call on potential customers who currently did no business with Auglaize-Provico.  In 2006 he was promoted to plant manager for the Botkins Ohio fertilizer plant which stores over 40,000 tons of dry fertilizer and 20,000 tons of liquid fertilizer.  After the merger in 2007 to form Advanced Agri Solutions Phil was named Crop Nutrient Manager for Advanced Agri Solutions.  In 2010 when Advanced Agri Solutions merged with Southwest Landmark Cooperative to form Trupointe Co-op Phil continued as the Crop Nutrient Manager now responsible for not only the Botkins Ohio terminal but the South Charleston Fertilizer facility as well as for the first-time having responsibilities for liquid fertilizer storage space in Cincinnati, Ohio.  After the Sunrise merger in 2017 Phil continued his responsibilities as CN manager which in fiscal year 2022 was a business valued at nearly $275 million dollars.
