Ohio's H2Ohio Program:
Overview and Update on Current Status
Join us in October for our last Agribusiness Forum of 2022! October will be presented by Terry Mescher from the Ohio Department of Agriculture Division of Soil & Water Conservation. Terry serves as the Program Director of H2Ohio, which he will share insights to how the program is being used to address water quality concerns in Lake Erie and the Western Lake Erie Basin. Terry will also give an update on the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s efforts to improve nutrient management across the Western Lake Erie Basin.
H2Ohio was launched by Governor Mike DeWine in 2019 and is a comprehensive water quality initiative that is working to strategically address serious water issues that have been building in Ohio for decades. Such problems include harmful algal blooms on Lake Erie caused by phosphorus runoff from farm fertilizer, failing drinking water, wastewater and home sewage treatment systems due to aging infrastructure and lead contamination from old water pipes and fixtures.
